What’s up all yinz jagoffs! Welcome to all heading over from the YaJagoff Podcast! If you’re one of our regular readers check out the latest episode of their show on their website or on the KDKA Radio app.
Now you may have some questions as to what exactly is going on here so here’s the short-short-Princess-Bride version.
Where do I find BBQ in Pittsburgh?
Yinz Love BBQ covers all things bbq, steak, and live-fire cooking in Western Pennsylvania. We are a Steak Cookoff Association sanctioned team and I am a certified judge. While reporting on the local craft beer scene since 2006 the biggest non-beer question I’d get is where to eat and barbecue was always the answer.
This site began as a directory of all bbq joints in Pittsburgh because I kept losing track and went from 5 on day one to 30 listings after the first year. As of today, there are currently 72 barbecue-focused restaurants and food trucks in the Greater Pittsburgh area plus 30 more in all of Western PA. Quick math, that’s 102. YaJagoff math – that’s a lot of pierogies. Yes, we smoke those too.
OK, I guess that wasn’t really short but it is if you ever listen to me talk about it.
Now that things are opening up we hope to get back on the road to eat our way around PA and visit all of the new businesses and attend events. Every year I compile a list of all BBQ and Steak Cookoff Association events within a 3-hour driving radius of Pittsburgh and also offer a Google Calendar you can subscribe to so you’re up to date on the latest events.
If you’ve listened to the show here are links to the places and topics I mentioned.
- Heritage Craft Butchers is where I go when I want to treat the family, myself, or heck it’s a Saturday and it’s sunny.
- Medium Rare Foods is the food stand where I picked up amazing locally sourced waygu hotdogs and burgers plus maple sausage links. They have home delivery!
- How to cook tri-tip. My addiction to this came from watching the crew at Cali Comfort BBQ and their videos.
- Grill Your Ace Off steak competition – These amazing SCA 1-day events you can get there around breakfast and leave by dinner plus your spots have always been socially distant so you can imagine how these have really taken off in the last year. You’ll meet wonderful people, have a great time, plus you’re cooking steak so how can that be a bad time? Oh did I mention the top prize of $1000 plus you’re helping charity? Here’s a recap from last year to find out more.
What about local sauces, spices, and rubs? I have you covered on that also. Our test kitchen will be reviewing products made here in Western PA and taking a few out on the competition trail. If you would like to send anything that doesn’t require a back brace to lift, ship it to the following address. Big items contact me using the contact form.
