It’s a crazy month coming up for local BBQ and I have the latest news and events to help you get the month planned out. We have a lot going on so let’s get started!
Welcome to the neighborhood!
I try not to let emotions get in the way of reporting BBQ news but soon the residents of the South Hills will have a new barbecue option! Paulie’s Smokehouse will open a 13 seat bbq joint with a 10 seat full bar in the borough of Dormont. Mike Chavis is shooting for an early June opening which has residents (like myself) shivering with barbecue antici… pation.
You will find Paulie’s Smokehouse at 1426 Potomac Ave (across from the iconic DorStop) and on Facebook.
Talking BBQ in Pittsburgh with YaJagoff!
Last weekend I was a guest on the YaJagoff podcast live from Klavon’s Ice Cream Parlor in the Strip where Teaspoon and I had “everyone’s mouth watering for all the BBQ flavors, new vendors, and upcoming events summer has to offer for any BBQ lover.”.
I talk about the cultural significance of BBQ throughout the Pittsburgh region and I break down some of my favorite sides.
The magic starts at the 17:11 mark of the show. Subscribe and download “YaJagoff Podcast” to your favorite podcast player n’at.
Grassfed Gadabout at Clarion Farms Beef Barn
You always hear “buy local” screamed from high upon Mt. Washington to yinz below but I don’t think our local beef farmers get the credit they’re due. It’s time to get dirty and visit where your beef is coming from at Clarion Farms Beef Barn!
Next Saturday (June 8th) from 3 PM – 5 PM they have an event planned to show you for only $10!
“We’re plumping cows who are calving and flavoring steers that will be beef, and we do it all without feed. Come tour the system that baffles people when they see it!
“We must be on the same page if we hope to change our food system, and getting feet out on the acres is a great way to accomplish the objective. Pictures are welcome and encouraged (this landscape makes excellent phone and computer backgrounds).”
Following the event, you’re invited to visit Mechanistic Brewing Co. who will be serving Clarion Farms Grassfed Beef as a special menu option in celebration of the farm-to-town connection. Dinner is not included in the ticket price.
Cioppino confirmed to me via Twitter that they will NOT have the Summer BBQ Patio Series this year.
Due to some logistical issues, we will not be hosting the Summer BBQ Patio Series this year. We appreciate your kind words and hope that we can entertain it again in the future.
This bums me out for a few reasons. It was the first time I met Chef R.C. and his food (and portions) were most impressive. A hearty serving of pleasantly oak smoked, beefy and moist brisket with a slim bark and admirable smoke ring. And the ribs… well you can read here.
After my first time, I became a repeat customer because the food, the service and the setting in the Strip were ideal for a Friday night experience in the Burgh. I was really looking forward to these events and hope to see them back in 2020!
